The area is well served by a number of public transport options including local buses and ferries on offer. The West Harbour ferry service is close by, with sailings direct to the CBD. Hobsonville Point also provides a regular ferry service to the CBD and Beach Haven, with a park and ride facility available.
When it comes to cycling, the dedicated North Western Cycleway is one of Auckland’s most well-known and safest commuter cycleways. Predominantly off-road paths, it now extends 20 kilometres from the city centre to Westgate, and connects to numerous other local cycleways and paths.
Shopping and entertainment
West Hills is perfectly situated with easy access to a wide range of great amenities. NorthWest Shopping Centre and Westgate shopping precinct offer an abundance of dining, retail and entertainment options right on your doorstep, just a short stroll from home. Westgate Lifestyle provides large format retailers including furniture stores, homewares, appliances, sports, and more, plus an increasing number of Kiwi businesses basing their head offices in the area. The area is a rapidly developing centre, with a new civic heart: pedestrian-friendly Te Pumanawa Square, featuring outdoor dining options, and Te Manawa library and community hub. Along with library services it offers a business centre providing work space, Citizens Advice Bureau and Justice of the Peace services, open seven days with a late night each Thursday night.
West Hills is well covered when it comes to practical necessities, with three supermarkets all very close by, plus a variety of butchers, seafood stores, and fresh fruit and vegetables. For medical care, you’ll be well looked after by Westgate Medical Centre and Emergency Care or The Doctors Massey Medical.
Educational opportunities
Families will enjoy the choice of schools nearby, with local early childhood education options, primary schools, and colleges available. For tertiary students, public transport routes are available nearby to Massey University in Albany, or CBD options including the University of Auckland, AUT University, and Unitec Institute of Technology.
