Terrace homes and light

Strategically placed windows in Universal terrace homes provide naturally light-filled living areas for you to get on with whatever it is you’re into – whether that’s painting, design, completing that study, creating models or dioramas, growing your indoor plant collection, or working on that yoga practice! Plenty of natural light also ensures a healthier living situation for you. The health benefits of natural light in our living environments are increasingly promoted, including helping to ward off seasonal depression, boosting our vitamin D levels, and natural light exposure aiding sleep. A Universal home is designed to maximise light, all year around.

The roomy reality: space in townhouse homes

The roomy reality of a Universal townhouse may surprise you! A few of our many happy new homeowners explain the way in which a Universal home opens out spatially when you step inside:

Hobsonville Point terrace homeowner Sue recalls how her reservations were overturned; “Initially, we didn’t think we wanted a terrace home. But we were passing, and decided to take a look. It was far more open and roomier than we thought – and really quite big. The space was utilised so well. Really, there’s no space that’s not useful.” Kate adds her perspective; “When you look at the exterior, they can look quite tall and small. But then once you head inside, every centimetre is so smartly used! It’s quite spacious which we really liked.”

Townhouse living is also a great way to get the room you require and more bang for your buck, without sacrificing on space, size, or number of bedrooms. Aleisha comments,

“What appealed to us about terrace home living was the great price point for buying a new home in an area with amazing access to the motorway and city. It also meant we didn’t have to sacrifice on living space, or the number of rooms.”

Open plan style

Open plan living ensures you get more room, whatever you need your space for. “We love the open plan. It makes such a big difference, practically speaking with two small kids,” says Amy. Homeowner Helen recalls, “Right from the beginning, the design appealed. The open plan layout means it makes the most of it all. It really maximises space! We also like that living in a terrace home is low maintenance.”

But how does privacy feature in all this? Helen explains: “People worry about privacy with terrace homes. But when you live in one, you find that they’re actually quite private. A few areas may be not so much. But I quite enjoy that, as it’s all part of that sense of community. I can sit on my balcony upstairs and chat to Mary next door on the weekend. But, if you want to be situated somewhere private, you can always go to one of the many more private areas of your home. It’s just not an issue.”

Aleisha adds, “I love that the entire top floor is dedicated to the master bedroom: it creates a lovely quiet retreat away from the rest of the house and because of the height of the home it feels very private.”

Ever enough? Storage in terrace homes

Possibly even more important is the kind of space we don’t live in but can never get enough of: storage space! “I love the open plan, and the storage. There’s tons! I was so shocked with all the storage”, says terrace home owner Sue. This is particularly important in terrace homes, which may not have the kind of outdoor overflow spaces to store items you see in other styles of property. Nick comments, “We were surprised how much space there really is in a terrace home, especially in the kitchen, and the cupboards and wardrobes. It’s really well designed.”
