Affordable Homes In Partnership With KiwiBuild

What is KiwiBuild?

Buying a home is a significant life event, particularly if it’s your first home. Many Kiwis now find themselves struggling to enter the market. KiwiBuild enables more home ownership opportunities for New Zealanders who are first home buyers. KiwiBuild was established by the New Zealand Government in 2018 as part of an initiative to address the housing challenges currently facing New Zealand.

Under Kāinga Ora – Homes and Communities, KiwiBuild’s remit is to address New Zealand’s housing challenges by partnering with private developers like Universal Homes, government agencies, local councils, infrastructure providers, Māori and mana whenua. KiwiBuild’s aim is to deliver more housing to help meet increasing demand.

How KiwiBuild Works

KiwiBuild works with Universal Homes to support the delivery of new and more affordable homes for Kiwis, and increase the pace of new homes coming to market. Together, we aim to improve access and provide greater options for home ownership opportunities at more affordable prices, including for the KiwiBuild Buying off the Plans initiative.

What are KiwiBuild Homes like?

Universal’s KiwiBuild homes are new builds, which means they’re modern, warm and dry. Additionally, all of our homes are designed to meet New Zealand Healthy Homes standards. This ensures things like heating and double glazing are all sorted for you. Even better, you’ll get the peace of mind of a Master Build Guarantee which comes with each one of our homes, plus our twelve month maintenance promise and aftercare.

We’re proud to design and build outstanding value, well-designed, low maintenance, smart and secure homes with lasting style, functionality, durability, and comfort. But more than that, we connect you with a community where you can feel truly at home.

Our KiwiBuild homes come in a variety of designs, styles and sizes to suit varying household needs. Chat to our friendly team to find out more.

How are KiwiBuild homes priced?

KiwiBuild homes are sold within affordable price ranges, with price caps used to set the maximum price all KiwiBuild homes can be sold for. For more information on pricing, head to the KiwiBuild website.

Who are KiwiBuild homes for?

In order to enter the ballot to purchase one of Universal’s KiwiBuild homes, you will need to meet a few specific eligibility criteria set by KiwiBuild and Kāinga Ora. To find out more and check your eligibility, head to the KiwiBuild website.

How does the purchase process work?

A ballot draw is usually used to sell Universal’s KiwiBuild homes, as there is a high level of demand for homes. This is done to ensure that the process is fair, and provides an equal opportunity for all interested buyers. The ballot is drawn and administered by KiwiBuild.
